1999 Barolo has Arrived!

by Gary

Le Barolo est Arrive! But prices are up because the dollar is down... And so, to help us all off-set the situation, until the beginning of Feburary, Spirit Haus goes short: 20% discounts on all new arrival Piedmontese wines - Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, expensive Barbera and Langhe Rosso! That way, we get to hold our place in the supply line for next year [stronger dollar times?] and another great vintage [2000 Barolo and 2001 Barbaresco]. And you are offered a most favorable opportunity to continue (or begin) collecting and enjoying some of Italy's greatest wines from vintages at the heart of the current extra-ordinary run of vintages stretching back to '96 and running forward to '01. There is great value in these bottles at prices beginning at $32.99 [$28.05 with our normal 15% case discount]. Now, think ahead with me for a moment if you will. Should one wish to enjoy just one bottle of "mature" Barolo or Barbaresco every other month [i.e. six per year]; and if these wines can go, in strong, collectable vintages like the ones currently before us in the market place, at least eight to ten years out from vintage date before beginning their "plateau of maturity", then one needs a reservoir of at least six times eight to ten bottles [48-60] of these wonderful Nebbiolos in one's cellar just to drink six per year. That is four to five cases. Sounds like a lot of only one kind of wine, especially if one is just beginning a cellar. And yet, it's simply a matter of numbers, and well chosen wine does keep, so say one doesn't drink a Barolo for a whole year [you're away in Tahiti], that just means that one has reserved the option of drinking one per month during the following year. There is no pressure to "drink them up", only the possibility of that too rare pleasure of drinking mature wines. So scout out these limited but special newsletter offerings, do all your consumer homework and then, if you wish, consult with me before deciding on your Piedmontese purchases. The wines of Northern Italy are of special interest to me and I am here to help you take prudent advantage of these extra-ordinary buying oportunities.
