Cantina del Pino Barbaresco Ovello 2015
|Region||Italy, Piedmont, Barbaresco|
|Brand||Cantina del Pino|
Ruby red intense colour with an edge of pomegranate with a soft scent of prune, fruits of the forest with a note of mint....elegant with a good tannins, soft and silky, balanced with fresh acidity and an intriguing scent of balsamic.
Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, June 2019: The 2015 Barbaresco Ovello is a polished and silky expression that reveals strong intensity and a deep sense of varietal identity. This is a very focused Barbaresco that opens beautifully to show a degree of mineral definition that lingers long on the palate, adding to the linear and direct personality of the wine. When you dig deeper, you do recognize that this is a warmer vintage, thanks to its textural richness and loose fiber. This will only improve in the future. Drink: 2021-2038. 94 points.
Deceptive in its light-bodied color, the 2015 Barbaresco Ovello packs a serious punch. Dried flowers, mint, pine, herbs, crushed berries and chalk add striking top notes. I very much like the wine's sense of energy. In other words, this is classic Ovello Barbaresco built on laser-like focus and real nobility. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy structured wines that develop gradually with many years in bottle.
Violet, star anise, woodland berry and camphor aromas lead the way on this elegant, firm red. The savory, linear palate delivers juicy Marasca cherry, pomegranate, licorice and orange zest while taut, fine-grained tannins provide support. It's focused and balanced, with fresh acidity. Drink 2021-2030.
