Chapelle St. Theodoric Chateauneuf du Pape La Guigasse 2018
|Region||France, Rhone, Chateauneuf-du-Pape|
|Brand||Chapelle St. Theodoric|
Both these 2018s from Chapelle Saint Theodoric were tasted as barrel samples. Starting with the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Guigasse (100% Grenache), it offers a richer, more powerful style than the Le Grand Pin, boasting a deeper purple color, loads of peppery spice, garrigue, mulled black cherries, and forest floor notes, ripe tannins, and an expansive, sexy texture. I normally think the Grand Pin is the better wine, but this will give it a run for its money in 2018.
Limpid ruby-red. Ripe red fruit, floral and exotic spice qualities on the expansive, mineral-accented nose. Juicy, polished and alluringly sweet, showing seamless texture and offering intense Chambord, lavender pastille and spicecake flavors that convey a suave blend of power and delicacy. The mineral and floral notes resonate on a strikingly long and precise finish that's given shape by fine-grained, well-knit tannins.
